What we can and can’t carry
Please check this list before you ask us to carry something. If you are not sure, ask us before you book.
We can’t carry
- Illegal, stolen, counterfeit or unlawfully obtained goods
- Firearms, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, flares or weapons, including replicas
- Knives, swords, crossbows, batons, stun guns, tasers, sprays or other weapon-like items
- Illegal drugs, psychoactive substances or drug-taking equipment
- Fuel, gas cylinders or canisters, dangerous chemicals, or anything flammable, explosive, corrosive or toxic
- Loose or spare lithium batteries, power banks, devices or batteries rated above 100 Wh, and any damaged, swollen, leaking or recalled device or battery
- Cash, bank cards, cheques, securities or other negotiable items; bullion, precious metals, precious stones, jewellery or watches
- Live animals or plants, human or animal remains, clinical waste, infectious material, asbestos, perishable food, or anything needing a special licence or temperature control
- Any item that is leaking, poorly packed, unsafe, too large or unsuitable for transport in our vehicle
Some of these items are illegal to possess or send. Others are restrictions we set for safety and insurance reasons.
We can normally carry
We can normally accept small, lawful, non-hazardous items that are suitable for transport in a private car. We decide whether to accept each booking.
- Documents, paperwork, contracts and files
- Forgotten luggage and personal belongings (see below for toiletries and devices inside luggage)
- Clothing, shoes, books and ordinary household items
- Small parcels and boxed personal or business goods
- Keys, subject to our normal acceptance checks
- Ordinary non-perishable items that do not need refrigeration or specialist handling
- Non-flammable toiletries and cosmetics in sealed, leak-proof retail packaging
All items must be clean, dry, securely packed and suitable for safe transport in a car. Packing materials are not included in our price. If we think the packing is not suitable, we will tell you before we collect, or at collection, and we may refuse the item.
Not currently accepted: We do not currently carry phones, laptops, tablets, cameras or other electronic devices with batteries, or medicines, perfumes, aerosols, alcohol, tobacco or vaping products. We also do not accept refrigerated, frozen, perishable or temperature-controlled goods.
Forgotten luggage: if it contains aerosols (such as deodorant or hairspray), perfume, or a phone, laptop, tablet or camera, please tell us when you ask for a quote. We may ask you to remove them before collection.
Declaring the contents and value
- When you ask for a quote we ask what the consignment contains and the approximate value of the items themselves. Please describe the items ("passport", "signed contract", "cabin suitcase: clothes and toiletries"), but do not send us identification numbers or the contents of documents.
- Please tell us in advance about anything of significant value, anything irreplaceable, or anything that needs special care. We may decline it, or agree specific arrangements in writing before we send your quote.
- The value you declare helps us decide whether and how we can carry your consignment. Declaring a value is not insurance and is not a limit on what you can claim. It covers the items themselves: a document can have little value as paper but serious consequences if it is late, so please tell us about those separately.
- Time-critical consignments: if your consignment is needed by a deadline outside our booking (for example a court filing, a flight, an appointment or a legal completion), please tell us when you ask for a quote, on any service level, including Immediate, and what would happen if it were late. We assess each case and may decline a job where the deadline or its consequences are more than we can reasonably take on. We do not refuse a job just because of the service level you choose.
We may ask what an item is, its approximate value and what it contains. We do not open sealed packages; we may ask to see inside an unsealed package if we reasonably believe it is not one we carry, is unsafe or is different from its description. We may refuse any item that has not been properly declared, is different from its description, is unsuitable for our service or creates a legal, safety or insurance concern. If we refuse an item for a reason you could not have known about, we refund you in full.
